An Amazing Anemone
Meet the sea creature that is helping Stowers Institute scientists uncover the mysteries of evolutionary and developmental biology, the juvenile starlet sea anemone, Nematostella vectensis. Using this sea anemone, scientists are probing the ancient past to determine how a body plan evolved. In this image, fluorescent tags and a type of microscopy called confocal microscopy reveals anatomical structures of a starlet sea anemone. This specimen was stained to visualize tubulin protein (blue), F-actin protein (green), and nuclei containing DNA (red).
