So what can we and can't we do?

These guidelines cover user participation on our forum. They are intended to help all participants have a constructive and enjoyable conversation.

The forum is a place discussions of ideas, experiences, and questions, and to share what we have learned. We want to foster an honest and open exchange of ideas on our community pages; to do that, we want to encourage all participants to maintain an atmosphere of courtesy and respect for others at all times. Creating a constructive place for conversation will help us build a strong, better informed community.

User Registration

Only registered users can post to the forum. Users should be active members of the cave-related organism scientific research community. An example would include a postdoc in a university lab researching the cavefish to study metabolism. This focused participation is intended to enable a high quality and trustworthy exchange of information and ideas. We may ask for a reference, or contact a known cave organism researcher to validate identities as needed. Approval of registration will be made on a case by case basis at the administrators’ discretion.

Guidelines

Discussions often benefit when participants stay focused on the subject matter being discussed. Participants are expected to direct their comments to the information, question, position, or explanation at hand rather than an individual.
  • Be respectful.
  • Be accurate. Cite and link to your sources where appropriate.
  • Be a good listener. The better you understand a question or comment, the more likely it is for your contribution to be valuable.
  • Be conversational. Ask questions, comment on other posts, offer thanks.
  • It’s ok to disagree with another post, but do so in a polite and constructive manner that is focused on the subject matter.
By using the forum, participants consent to the Stowers Privacy Policy and Stowers Terms of Use, and must also refrain from the activities listed below.
