RESEARCH SUMMARY
My research focuses primarily on the function of Hox genes in the early branching metazoan Nematostella venctensis. So far, at least eight different Hox genes have been identified in the Nematostella genome based on sequence homology, yet their actual function during embryo development and axis formation in Nematostella is poorly understood. With the newly established CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technique, I’m making NvHox mutants and reporter lines in order to better understand the origin and evolution of this ancient gene cluster.
