Sergio joined the Zeitlinger Lab in 2016 to finish his Masters in Molecular Cell Biology. Sergio holds a Bachelors in Biology from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain. He did his first summer internship in a Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis centre where he became familiar with the use of applied techniques in molecular biology and bioinformatics in order to detect disease-carrying haplotype in human embryos. He later volunteered at Dr. Stuart MacNeill´s laboratory at the Biomedical Research Complex in the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where he worked on DNA repair mechanism in yeast. These experiences raised Sergio’s interest in molecular biology and he therefore joined the Msc Biomolecular Sciences program at the Vrije University of Amsterdam, where he did his internship working on the assembly of the basal transcription factor TFIID with Professor Marc Timmers at the Hubrecht Institute. Currently, Sergio is finishing his Master Thesis in the Zeitlinger lab where he studies the influence of core promoter DNA sequences on the binding of the TFIID complex. When he is not at the lab, he likes being outdoors reading, hiking or camping whenever possible.
